Set between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, Nicaragua is a tropical paradise with blinding beaches, volcanoes, and terrain lakes. Places like San Juan del Sur and Ometepe Island would make for unique visits. It’s also one of the least expensive places to visit, which is great for backpackers.
Hokkaido, Japan
Japan is undoubtedly one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, and it’s going to be bustling with activity next year as it will be hosting the 2020 Summer Olympics. So, Tokyo is unlikely a good place to be if you are not looking to be swept into the Olympics craze. That leaves us with this little known gem that adventure lovers will fall in love with: Hokkaido.
Hokkaido is an island north of Japan known for its breath-taking sceneries. It is that place where nature calls home! In the winter, Hokkaido is known for snowboarding and powder skiing.
In the summer, it’s popular for its brilliant parks, the famous Furano Flower Fields as well as pristine lakes.
Banff, Canada
When you mention exotic, most people will not think of North America. But, here is a little known town in Canada that’s made from the stuff of dreams and fantasies. Located in Alberta, within the Banff National Park, is the little mountain town of Banff.
Banff boasts of two of Canada’s best ski resorts. And if you are a mountain climber, the Rocky Mountains nestled in the background would make for a delightful treat. Banff is simply one of those places you have to see once in your life.
Agadir, Morocco
In the northern region of Africa, bordering the Mediterranean is Morocco. A very diverse country with exciting but different places to visit from the desert trips on camel backs to remote laid back villages. You get to experience a mix of Arabic, Imazighen, and African culture, and you definitely taste it in the exotic dishes.
As a backpacker in Morocco, you don’t want to miss out on Agadir, a city located southwest of the country. It offers the market thrills of Marrakesh without the chaos. If you like to feel the wind in your hair, you’ll fall in love with Agadir as it’s pretty windy, which makes it a haven for windsurfing and kitesurfing.
If you are into ancient history, you’ll enjoy the pervading sense of the past gracing the present. You can hike up to the Kasbah fortifications, which go as far back as the 16th century.
Pisac, Peru
If you love wild emptiness where you can yell and hear your echo several times, Pisac in Peru is the place to be. Located in Peru’s Sacred Valley region, this village is well-known for its Incan ruins. The vast and empty undulating valleys provide a source of peace for travelers seeking escape from city madness and turmoil of life.
These are just some of the best destinations for backpackers. Europe and N. America have some excellent spots if you have the money. However, if you’re on a budget, South East Asia, Central America, and Africa would be ideal.
