Three Must-see Historical Ruins Outside of Rome and Greece

The Colosseum and the Roman Forum in Rome. The Acropolis, Knossos, and Delphi in Greece. These are some of the world’s most famous ruins and the sites of two of the world’s earliest civilizations. They draw thousands of tourists each year, impressing both locals and foreigners with their history, architecture, and grandeur. It comes as no surprise then that most people immediately think of Roman and Greek ruins when asked which places with a rich history and impressive, ancient architecture they want to see.

These two, however, are hardly the only archaeological ruins worth visiting, others from outside Rome and Greece that are equally awe-inspiring and rich with history.

On your next out-of-the-country vacation, consider seeing these ruins around the globe:

The Tulum Ruins of Mexico

Located south of Playa del Carmen and just 80 miles away from Cancun, the Ruins of Tulum offers a peek into the life of the Mayas who populated this port city before the Spanish occupation of Mexico. Archaeological evidence shows that civilization existed in the city as early as 564 A.D. It is also believed that Tulum was a thriving port city and a major trading post between the old Central American city-states of Chichen Itza, Coba, and Ek Balam.

Today, Tulum is a favorite destination of LDS vacation tours that visit the locations mentioned in the Book of Mormon. Visitors will find an enclosed, limestone-walled city that stands high cliffs and faces the gorgeous Caribbean sea. Its main structures are the Temple of the Descending God (features a stone wall carving of a god whose bent legs are above him, his arms and head at the bottom, as though having descended headfirst from the sky), the Temple of Frescoes (reportedly has a stucco mural of Mayan deities and vestiges of old paintings inside the temple), and the Pyramid of El Castillo (the most imposing building in the Tulum ruins which stands on a bluff overlooking the crystal blue sea).

Caesarea, the Ancient City of Israel

The breathtaking old harbor built by King Herod is now beautifully restored, but visitors can still see its archaeological wonders underwater. Yes, Caesarea Maritima is the site of the world’s first underwater museum. Tourists can go on a guided dive that will take them through the sunken ruins of the ancient city. The surrounding waters are littered with archaeological artifacts from Caesarea, as well as bounty from shipwrecks dating as far back as the 11th Century.

There is yet another impressive structure aboveground; a portion of the Herodian aqueducts still stand on the beach on the northern part of the old city. Also visible is the extension of the raised aqueducts, which was later added by the Roman emperor, Hadrian.

The Lost Empire of Hattusha, Turkey

The capital of the once-powerful Hittite Empire, Hattusha is a precious archaeological discovery and a UNESCO World Heritage site. The city was home to over 40,000 and was both a military and economic stronghold. The empire was reportedly a challenge to the army of Pharaoh Ramses II of Egypt, the Babylonians, and the Assyrians. Even the Bible contains references to its formidable fighters.

Archaeologists believe that Hattusha “vanished” from 1200 B.C. until it was rediscovered in 1907. Today, the stone foundations of stone residential buildings are all that’s left of the Lower City and the Temple District (also called the Upper City), along with the preserved, stone-made Yerkapi Tunnel, Yazilikaya shrine complex, and the Suppiluliuma Shrine.

These three sites will no doubt satisfy your wanderlust and grant you a better appreciation of their respective region’s history and ancient culture. Travelers ought to consider visiting any of these places on their next vacation trips.

Prepping For Your Next Road-trip: Remodel Your RV

Leaving your vehicle at home may be a necessity if you plan to be away for a few days or even a week. However, if you leave behind some of your things, it can make your plans more difficult. Before you leave, ensure that you are prepared.

Keep your vehicle completely stock. Check the condition of the heater, air conditioner, gas tank, windshield wiper blades, and other electrical items, and determine if they are functional. When possible, park your vehicle near the closest washroom or the nearest supply store for more thorough cleaning and maintenance.

Choose a great location.

You can’t hit up all of the local resorts but you can snag some quality places nearby. Many of the RV park sites are miles from the nearest public transportation and are still just minutes from downtown Sacramento. Not to mention, we enjoy that there are 2,500 miles of beautiful Southern California coastline to explore while you’re looking to fill up your spare-time.

Of course, this is only a guideline for now, so contact the RV parks directly for specifics.

As I mentioned earlier, I always rate the effort of rearranging a person’s home and car thoroughly, but the RV’s trailer is easier to track, and much simpler to get rid of and to bring to the following RVing trip. It is quite cheap to remove and haul from your campsite, especially as you can just swap out the tires if needed. Another good way to estimate how much tow you will need is to simply subtract about 5 pounds from the vehicle’s weight.

When To Detach From The RV

Time is of the essence. No matter how much you plan to go out on the road, it is important to remove yourself from your RV as soon as you realize that you have been spending too much time on it.

Have you been thinking about changing out your fiberglass fiberglass camper shell for one made of metal? Just think of all the flexibility you’ll get and all of the places you’ll be able to go. You can reduce the amount of cleaning needed in your camper by a great deal and you’ll get new protection for all your electronics.

Aluminum panels are relatively easy to drill in, much safer for the safety of you and the people in your camper. You’ll have better visibility in certain situations with a steel shell. You can get much better lighting with a fiberglass fiberglass panel. Aluminum panels can be relatively light, especially when they are painted or insulated with solar cells.

Though we don’t encourage visitors to leave a thoughtless, unfinished project at home, you could save money by remodeling your truck and RV, such as an unfinished door handle.

Scrub off old rust and seal in moisture with a sealant. Sealings are sold in most auto parts stores.

Get new tires. This is particularly important for camper trucks, and especially important if you intend to hit a rock with your RV. Those round tires won’t grip as well as any other tire, so the rock may knock you over.

Using my knowledge of RV design, I came up with my own list of recommended RV remodeling supplies and water supplies, and a chart that illustrates which ones are a safety must for your RV.

Make It Your Own

Here are some more things to keep in mind when preparing your RV for the next big trip. Keep it simple or go all out and get a group together. No matter what you do, you’ll have a lot of fun at the new festival or camping location you’re planning. rv remodeling supplies

Discover the Quietest Places To Visit In Thailand – Even in Bangkok

Thailand has become a mecca for tourists from all over the world. As a result, the Land of Smiles has several built-up tourist destinations sprawling with hotels, bars, clubs, restaurants, and tourist hot spots. The issue today is that the most advertised places that were once untouched paradises are now just becoming another European style holiday destination with the only difference being that it is in the East.

However, Thailand is not finished yet as there are still some hidden gems provided by this tour operator thailandia!

Bang Krachao

Very few people even know about this island. What may surprise you, even more, is that it is in the center of Bangkok in a place hidden away from high rise buildings, built streets, and the mad traffic-ridden roads in southeast Asia’s most visited city. And we are not talking about a small area here either because Bang Krachao spans 16 square kilometers (6.2 sq mi) of the city. To find it, you just need to look for a huge bend in the river, and to get there, you will usually need to take a ferry; although, you can get there by taxi too.

Once inside you can hire a bike for as little as 50 baht for the entire day and begin your adventure in a place that feels like you are in the countryside. Along the way, you will encounter lush gardens, dense forests, swampy lands, plenty of cheap restaurants and coffee shops, a plethora of temples, and a park slap bang in the middle complete with a lake and bird sanctuary. This is also the same location you will find the famous ‘floating market’ which tourists are whisked into, and then whisked out without being given a chance to see what else Bang Krachao has to offer.

Koh Chang, Koh Kut, and Koh Wai

If you are looking for a tropical island in the middle of paradise, then these are it. The beaches on all of them are very quiet, the islands attract few tourists, yet, they are set up perfectly to cater to the small number of visitors that have discovered this part of Thailand. Nowhere else in the Kingdom is quite like Koh Chang, which is the busiest of the three islands mentioned here. You have all the amenities, tours, and dive stops anywhere in Thailand offers crystal clear waters that are clean and teeming with sea life.

As for Koh Kut and Koh Wai, these islands are much quieter and smaller than Koh Chang. You will literally be in paradise with long stretches of beach to yourself and plenty of places to take a peaceful walk. Although, hold to your hats while you are here because the locals (tribes of monkeys) are not shy whatsoever and have a habit of collecting beach hats and baseball caps.

So, next time you think about arranging a trip to Bangkok, take some time out in Bang Krachao’s national park and then head to Koh Chang for some peace and quiet as well as some island hopping.

Just so know, perusing travel sites is literally what every adventure travel lover does. And to make things smoother for you, we’ve prepared a list of five exciting destinations for those who are into backpacking.

San Juan del Sur/Ometepe, Nicaragua

The most popular hot spots for backpackers and adventure travelers are usually in South East Asia, places like Thailand and Vietnam. But, there are hidden gems all over the world, and we just started this leg of the journey with Nicaragua.

If you are a fun of the CBS, long-running reality show, Survivor, then you know they shot several seasons in this small Central American country. Set between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, Nicaragua is a tropical paradise with blinding beaches, volcanoes, and terrain lakes. Places like San Juan del Sur and Ometepe Island would make for unique visits. It’s also one of the least expensive places to visit, which is great for backpackers.

Hokkaido, Japan

Japan is undoubtedly one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, and it’s going to be bustling with activity next year as it will be hosting the 2020 Summer Olympics. So, Tokyo is unlikely a good place to be if you are not looking to be swept into the Olympics craze. That leaves us with this little known gem that adventure lovers will fall in love with: Hokkaido.

Hokkaido is an island north of Japan known for its breath-taking sceneries. It is that place where nature calls home! In the winter, Hokkaido is known for snowboarding and powder skiing.

In the summer, it’s popular for its brilliant parks, the famous Furano Flower Fields as well as pristine lakes.

Banff, Canada

When you mention exotic, most people will not think of North America. But, here is a little known town in Canada that’s made from the stuff of dreams and fantasies. Located in Alberta, within the Banff National Park, is the little mountain town of Banff.

Banff boasts of two of Canada’s best ski resorts. And if you are a mountain climber, the Rocky Mountains nestled in the background would make for a delightful treat. Banff is simply one of those places you have to see once in your life.

Agadir, Morocco

In the northern region of Africa, bordering the Mediterranean is Morocco. A very diverse country with exciting but different places to visit from the desert trips on camel backs to remote laid back villages. You get to experience a mix of Arabic, Imazighen, and African culture, and you definitely taste it in the exotic dishes.

As a backpacker in Morocco, you don’t want to miss out on Agadir, a city located southwest of the country. It offers the market thrills of Marrakesh without the chaos. If you like to feel the wind in your hair, you’ll fall in love with Agadir as it’s pretty windy, which makes it a haven for windsurfing and kitesurfing.

If you are into ancient history, you’ll enjoy the pervading sense of the past gracing the present. You can hike up to the Kasbah fortifications, which go as far back as the 16th century.

Pisac, Peru

If you love wild emptiness where you can yell and hear your echo several times, Pisac in Peru is the place to be. Located in Peru’s Sacred Valley region, this village is well-known for its Incan ruins. The vast and empty undulating valleys provide a source of peace for travelers seeking escape from city madness and turmoil of life.

These are just some of the best destinations for backpackers. Europe and N. America have some excellent spots if you have the money. However, if you’re on a budget, South East Asia, Central America, and Africa would be ideal.

Where Will You Be Staying in Bangna?

Bangna is an industrial area that is situated in Bangkok. It leads to the eastern region of the country of Thailand, which is a region that includes cities such as Pattaya. If you are a professional who is staying in Bangna, you can find a number of popular hotels in this part of the city.

Why Are You Traveling to Bangna?

A hotel in Bangna is usually both luxurious and affordable. In any event, you will enjoy your stay whether you are traveling on business or are just taking in the sights and enjoying a holiday. When you choose accommodations, see what other people have to say about the hotel property. You also want to be close to major amenities in the city, such as the SkyTrain.

You can get just about anywhere without the need for a car if you go by SkyTrain. When choosing a hotel, you will find that many of the hotel rooms are both clean and contemporary. You can also take advantage of blackout blinds in some hotels. Also, key card entry makes getting into your hotel room more secure. If you don’t like smoking, you will find that many Bangna hotels will not allow people to smoke.

When you read the comments online about Bangna hotels, you will see a number of positive descriptions sprinkled online. For example, people comment that hotel staff members are kind and helpful or that the hotel room in which they stayed was exceptionally clean. When you stay at a hotel, you normally will be greeted at breakfast with a buffet of breakfast foods and beverages.

Save Money on Dining and Other Food Expenses

When you can have access to this type of offering, you can save a good deal of money in what you spend on groceries or restaurant foods. Check out each hotel and see what the property provides in community and guest amenities. Review the reviews and stay alert to any inconsistencies in the reports people give about their stays.

A Negative Review: Stay Away From Hotels That Feature More Bad Reviews Than Good

You don’t want to read a review that says that the AC does not work or the bedding was dirty and the furniture was not clean. You also do not want to see reports that point to rudeness on any part of the staff. If you find even more accounts of this type, find a hotel that offers a large number of positive comments or remarks.

Use Discernment When Choosing a Hotel Room

You can find the ideal hotel room for you in Bangna as long as you use discernment. If you don’t see what you want online, call hotels and obtain further details. In most cases, it is better to make a call, especially if it is your first time traveling to Bangna or the surrounding areas.

Making the Right Selection

Choosing the right hotel room in Bangna is important if you want to take in the sights and sounds of Bangkok without worry. Again, you can find accommodations all over Bangna. You just need to make sure that they carry four- or five-star ratings and feature good reviews.

A Wonderful Home for Elephants

There is little doubt that most of us have been to the zoo and seen the elephants that the facility has to offer. And even if they are getting the best of care, the space never seems as if it is enough for these massive, majestic creatures.

Finding them a new home is something that we all hope for but never really think much about. But what if there were places that those elephants could go to live their lives in the truest and most natural ways, in comfort and among those like them?

That is why an ethical elephant sanctuary in Thailand provides a place to see these wonderful beasts and yet know that they are living the best life that they possibly can outside of their own natural, wild habitat.

Making the Elephants Feel at Home

There are sanctuaries in Thailand that have been set up to ensure that each elephant that arrives feels as though it is in its own natural habitat. That means plenty of space to roam freely, be with their kind, and live the best life that they can.

What is great is that these natural parks allow for the ability to accommodate visitors. Those visitors can visit the sanctuary to feed, play with, and bathe each of the animals on their visit. Not only that, but it provides the opportunity for each of the visitors to learn more about these majestic animals and to become as knowledgeable as possible about them.

Get the Snapshot of a Lifetime

Another great thing about these sanctuaries is that it makes for an excellent photo opportunity with the elephants. You can bring a camera of your own or, if you don’t feel confident enough to get the shot that you have been after, most sanctuaries will offer a photography service.

With the right sanctuary, you can find a photographer who will take pictures of you and your family throughout the day as you enjoy your time with the elephants and then upload the photos to Dropbox. From there, you can access them through a link provided by the sanctuary. This way, you can get the experience of a lifetime without having to wonder if you got the shot.

What better way to remember such a wonderful and unique experience than to have it captured by professional photographers who are along for the ride with you? You will have the kind of shareable memories that will be discussed for many, many years. It truly is a one of a kind experience.

Sanctuaries in Thailand have been put in place so that elephants from around the globe can enjoy the natural beauty and live the lives that they are meant to be living. This means that you can visit them with peace of mind and know that they are getting to live their best lives while you get to enjoy the tranquility and beauty that these wonderful creatures of nature bring. It is an experience unlike any other.
